I am in love with the world and its myriad landscapes and languages. You are as likely to find me lounging in a hammock catching up on the latest discovery made at CERN as you are to catch me tiling my bathroom floor, harvesting edible plants in the woods, painting a portrait, writing a poem or scrubbing mussels for the tom yum soup I have planned. While I feel called to the field of education for many reasons, the foremost motivation guiding me to teach is my genuine care and concern for human beings. We teach and learn from each other all the time and in so doing we craft the world. In this way, education is the fundamental vehicle of social progress and reform. As human beings in a shrinking global community we are more and more responsible to and for each other's well being and the well being of the planet: the more aware we are of social injustice and environmental issues, the more responsibility we shoulder to attend to these matters. As a teacher, I feel I have the potential to glean the most fulfillment from my role as a steward of humanity by fostering wonder, love, compassion and wisdom in the hearts and minds of students.
